I still remember the day the doctor looked at me and said,

“We may have to cut your leg.”

At that moment, my whole world collapsed.

My name is Naba. I’m from a small village in Orissa. I lost my parents when I was very young… and since then, I’ve been living all alone.

I used to work as a carpenter and somehow manage my life. I never had much, but I had enough to survive.

Then one day, a small boil appeared on my leg.

I didn’t think much of it.

But slowly… it kept spreading.

Today, that small wound has turned into a severe infection that has reached my thigh. The pain is unbearable. I can’t walk. I can’t work. Every single day feels like a struggle just to exist.

I continued my treatment for as long as I had money.

But now, I have nothing left.

My treatment has stopped… and the infection is getting worse.

Doctors say that if I get immediate treatment, my leg can still be saved.

But if I don’t… I might lose it forever.

I’m scared.

People don’t even come near me anymore. They look at my wound and turn away. Some even cover their faces and leave.

I feel invisible… unwanted.

I have no one to stand by me.

My sisters are married and have their own families. I don’t know how long they can help me.

I spend my days in pain… and my nights in fear.

Fear of losing my leg.

Fear of being completely helpless.

But I still have hope.

Hope that someone, somewhere, will hear my voice.

If I can get treated… I can walk again. I can work again. I can live with dignity.

I don’t want to lose my leg. I just want a chance to live.
